Naser Jawas
I am an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia, and a member of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory. My research interests lie in computer vision and image processing, with a focus on video-based human motion analysis, including hand tracking, gesture and sign language recognition, and human action recognition. I teach programming, algorithms and data structures, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.
I earned my PhD in Engineering from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, where I developed algorithms for automatic sign language recognition. During my doctoral studies, I was a member of the Image Processing and Expert Systems (IPES) Laboratory, part of the Information Engineering Research Group in the School of Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Tardi Tjahjadi.
Before my PhD, I studied in Indonesia. I received my master’s degree (M.Kom.) in Informatics, specialising in Computational Intelligence and Visual Computing, from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). There, I was fortunate to work with Prof. Agus Zainal Arifin, Prof. Nanik Suciati and Dr Arya Yudhi Wijaya, who deepened my knowledge of the field. My master’s thesis focused on an image enhancement algorithm for dental panoramic radiographs.
My journey began at Universitas Udayana (UNUD), where I earned my bachelor’s degree (S.T.) in Electrical Engineering, specialising in Computer Systems and Informatics. Under the guidance of Prof. I Ketut Gede Darma Putra and Mr I Nyoman Piarsa, I worked on image segmentation and normalisation for iris biometrics, which sparked my interest in image processing and computer vision.
I welcome enquiries about research collaboration and student supervision. Feel free to contact me by email.
